Under a two-phased strategy, PIA, in collaboration with The Citizens Foundation Relief Fund, will provide systematic relief to survivors of earthquake in the Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir.
In the first phase, as immediate relief, basic care packages including tents, blankets and food items would be provided. In the second phase, in association with other partners, PIA plans to construct 5,000 seismically designed homes over the next two years, each costing Rs 400,000.
In addition, PIA is contributing Rs 40 million towards the President's Relief Fund. Of this amount, PIA has given Rs 26 million in cash, Rs 10 million as transportation charges of relief goods, and Rs 4 million in flying the affected families to Islamabad.
Meanwhile, a 35 members of PIA Boy Scouts from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad have also been flown to the devastated areas to carry out relief work.
