A sea change has taken place in international relations. The ongoing Indo-US Naval exercise code named "Malabar" in Arabian Sea is a case in point. It is unthinkable that such an event could have taken place in the Nehru era when India was firmly on erstwhile USSR side despite its proclaimed neutrality.
No military exercise is held in a vacuum. There has to be an enemy in the minds of the planners to set an exercise and practise various phases of war to achieve the objective of the exercise.
It is not very difficult to assess who is the enemy against whom Indo-US naval exercise is being carried out. In other words what is the objective of this exercise.
America's new agenda is well known. It is containment of China. In 1950 America contained China from what General Douglas MacArthur called America's "Unsinkable Aircraft Carrier" Taiwan. China is technically still at war with Taiwan. In 1996 the US had sent two Aircraft Carriers battle groups in the area after China's missiles tests in Taiwan Straits.
Bit by bit Taiwan appears to be moving towards independence. China would use all means, including force, to prevent this. America would defend Taiwan.
Why has India tilted towards America's policy of containment of China? One reason appears to be to get access to superior military technology of USA.
The other is to strengthen its own hegemonic designs as regional power at the cost of China.
The Indo-US nexus poses a great threat to the security of Pakistan, particularly its nuclear assets, which are an eyesore to both the countries. Let us be vigilant and maintain unity, faith and discipline the motto set forth by the Quaid-e-Azam.
