ISLAMABAD: Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said Pakistan Railways was purchasing 55 locomotives (4000 to 4500 HP) from the United States of America.
On finalization of a competitive bidding process, Pakistan Railways had signed a contract agreement amounting to US$ 213,689 million with Ms. General Electric (GE), United States of America on June 20, 2015 he said speaking during the question hour in the National Assembly.
Secondly 63 locomotives were received in the year 2013-14 and 2014-15 which were purchased against contract agreement with M/s CSR Ziyang, China in financial year 2012-13. The total amount spent on their purchase was US$ 129.688 million.
Meanwhile, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Monday the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) suffered losses of Rs 255 billion till December 2015.
The minister said overall financial loss incurred by PIACL stood at Rs 156.22 billion as on March 31, 2013 and at present the total accumulated losses were registered at Rs 255 billion.
He said the national flag carrier was presently operating its flights to 19 countries including Canada, USA, France, Italy, Norway, Denmark, United Kingdom, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, China and Japan.
He said civil aviation authority had been directed to start flights on airports in the country which were economically viable.
