The 18-member Cabinet Committee on Earthquake, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation will meet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz here on Saturday to review the ongoing relief efforts in quake-stricken areas, official sources told Business Recorder here on Friday.
The hurriedly constituted committee initially comprised on 14 members but a day later four other ministers, including the Defence Minister were taken on board.
When inquired about the agenda of the meeting, the official said that there was no formal agenda but the committee would review ongoing relief efforts in AJK and NWFP, adding that Relief Commission is likely to brief the meeting about the steps, have been taken in this regard.
The official further said, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, who is also the chairman of the committee, would apprise cabinet colleagues about the foreign assistance received and the promise made by the international community, besides response to the appeal of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan a couple days earlier.
The official, however, said that international community had promised $620 million as assistance but the country needed more than $5 billion to rebuild the infrastructure destroyed due to the quake.
