The Punjab government has so far provided medical facilities to more than 7,000 earthquake victims in various different hospitals of the province.
According to the provincial government authorities, as many as 4,367 injured persons are still under treatment in various hospitals in the province while 11,150 beds have also been prepared in tertiary and secondary health centres for this purpose.
Moreover, 22 medical teams have been sent by the provincial government to the devastated areas and a 13-member doctors team, which has come from USA on the request of chief minister Punjab, is also engaged in providing medical assistance to the injured persons in Azad Kashmir.
Similarly, on the appeal of country representative of WHO, 40 medical teams have been dispatched to the ravaged areas while 3,584 bags of blood were stocked and 1,576 bags provided to the agencies concerned while 16 trucks of medicines dispatched to the earthquake-hit areas.
According to a report issued by Punjab relief department, fully equipped orthopaedics operation theatres have been set up by health department in Muzaffarabad and Mansehra where operations are being conducted for fractured bones.
Likewise, 35 operations have so far been conducted in rural health centre Sahli. Relief packages are also being given to the injured persons in field hospitals and every patient who has recovered is provided a tent, a blanket and ten days food.
Health facilities have been provided to 5,000 patients at their doorsteps. Health department Okara has sent a 21-bed hospital to Bagh, Azad Kashmir whereas 3,809 patients were treated in Rawalpindi hospitals. Fifteen patients were received at old terminal of Lahore Airport on October 20, out of which 14 were shifted to Jinnah Hospital and one to CMH, Lahore.
According to the report, social welfare department, besides dispatching 188 trucks, has sent relief goods worth Rs 600,000 through social security hospital, Kot Lakhpat to social security hospital, Islamabad, while medical facilities are being provided to 220 patients and food and accommodation facilities are also being extended to their 454 attendants.
Moreover, labour department got admitted 187 injured persons in social security hospital Islamabad of which 125 wounded persons are still under treatment. Police department sent 81 trucks of relief goods to the earthquake-affected areas whereas 190 police officials have been sent to Azad Kashmir to participate in relief activities and maintenance of law and order.
Moreover, police also arranged 1,124 trucks and 499 buses for transportation and 289 tents were provided by the department, the report claimed.
It further said that relief department provided an amount of Rs 3 million to Auqaf department for providing ready-to-eat food to earthquake affectees in Azad Kashmir. Similarly, 611 volunteers of civil defence were deputed in the stricken areas who rescued 8,966 wounded persons from debris and provided them first aid in 9 health centres.
Similarly, food department provided 6,865 tarpaulins, out of which 2,265 were sent to Mansehra, 2,479 to Murree, 245 to Rawalakot, 536 to Bagh and 1,340 to Muzaffarabad. As many as 456 trucks of relief items were also dispatched to affected areas on Friday, out of which 30 were sent from Jinnah Hall Lahore.
Moreover, 2,254 truckloads of relief assistance has been sent from government sector, 2,221 with the co-operation of private sector and 290 by different government departments individually from Punjab province for the calamity-stricken people, the report ended.
