Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir on Saturday said that Pakistan Navy is rendering every assistance to the quake-affected people.
He observed this during his visit to 25-bed hospital established by Pakistan Navy in a quake-affected village near Batgram on Karakoram Highway.
While briefly talking to the Pakistan Navy Contingent the Naval Chief directed them for continuing the relief operation day and night in the best naval tradition. The contingent includes, PN Special Services Group, doctors, marines and paramedical staff.
The Naval Chief was given a detailed briefing on the medical and relief services being rendered by the PN. The operation commander said, that to-date 70 truck-load of relief items have been distributed among the quake-affected people.
The Naval Chief said that Pakistan Navy has collected a large number of relief items and these would be supplied to the quake affected areas according to the needs.
He was told that tents and food items were the major articles needed to be supplied in the area on priority.
At the hospital, around 12,00 patients have been treated.
Major General Shakeel, In-charge relief and rescue operation in NWFP, also gave detailed briefing to the Naval Chief and informed that seeing the hilly and rugged terrain, Relief and Rescue Camps of Pakistan Army are being set up after every 10 kms.
He said this step will ensure maximum coverage to the quake-affected areas in providing efficient and prompt relief.
The Naval Chief appreciated the spirit of the armed forces and said they all were united in the trying time.
Later, the Naval Chief gave away relief goods to the quake victims and donated Rs 50,000 from his own pocket.
