The US Army's mobile field hospital arrived at Chaklala Airbase on Sunday to help the victims of the earthquake. The Germany-based Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) will set up a 44-bed facility at Muzaffarabad.
Complete with two operating theatres, it is able to perform 20 major operations daily.
"We look forward to helping the people in Pakistan,' said 212th MASH Commander Colonel Angel L Lugo, who arrived here last week in advance of the main unit.
The MASH unit and about 100 of its total staff of 200 travelled aboard a commercial Boeing 757 jet to an army air base outside Islamabad, from where it would travel about 230 km (145 miles) by road to the stricken region.
The 100 included 12 doctors and 32 nurses.
