The Prime Minister has sanctioned rupees 75 million for immediate disbursal to injured patients from the quake-hit areas presently admitted in the civil and military hospitals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Secretary Health Syed Anwar Mahmood on Tuesday informed a meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee held here. "10,000 rupees are being disbursed to the seriously injured while those with minor injuries will get 5,000 rupees," he informed.
He said the Prime Minister, taking cognisance of the hardships being faced by the injured patients, had ordered immediate disbursal of this amount which was in addition to the financial compensation already announced by the Government for quake victims.
The meeting was informed there was no shortage of blood and blood screening kits in any health facility or medical camp established by the Ministry of Health in the quake stricken areas.
In view of the lack of adequate medical facilities for the quake victims in areas close to the line of control in Azad Kashmir, a decision had been taken by the Ministry of Health to establish a medical camp at Chinari. In that connection, a medical and logistics team was being dispatched tomorrow.
It was informed that considering the risk of infection to medical practitioners handling the injured from quake hit areas, doctors and para medics were being immunised against Hepatitis B and Tetanus. This is besides the Tetanus Toxoid injections being given to all injured upon admission to a health facility or medical camp. Federal Secretary Health again reiterated that there was no shortage of Anti-tetanus Globulin anywhere and medical facilities requiring ATG might contact the National Institute of Health Islamabad on telephone Nos 051-9255101, 051-9255090-4.
