More than 1,200 trucks containing relief goods have so far been sent to quake-affected areas from the three districts of Faisalabad division ie Jhang, Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh districts.
According to details, 1,036 trucks from Faisalabad, 127 from Jhang and 40 from Toba Tek Singh have been sent for helping the affected people. The relief items included tents, blankets, quilts, woollen clothes etc beside daily use utensils, bakery & kitchen items, spades, candles, shoes and a number of dry ration items.
DCO Faisalabad Athar Hussain Khan Sial told newsmen that a total number of 1,036 trucks containing relief goods had so far been dispatched from Faisalabad, of which 80 trucks were sent by the district government while 965 trucks were sent by different NGOs, welfare organisations, traders, industrialists and philanthropists of the area. Lauding the spirit of sympathy and service to humanity demonstrated by the people of Faisalabad, the DCO remarked that their sense of sincerity and sacrifice was unparalleled.
The DCO said that there was need of medicines and dry ration in the calamity hit areas along with tents, quilts, blankets and woollen clothes. He said that people collecting relief goods should keep the requirements of blankets, quilts & warm clothing in view of the quickly setting in cold weather in the affected areas with many victims still stranded in open areas there.
DCO Faisalabad said that besides setting up 12 relief centres in the district, of six were in Faisalabad City, bank account of the Governor's Earthquake Relief Fund had also been opened in Allied Bank bearing No 855-7 and the people had been facilitated with the liberty of depositing their donations in any ABL branch of Faisalabad for their convenience.
In addition to it, a packing & despatch unit had been set up in the former Roti Plant building near Iqbal Stadium here, where people could not only observe the packing & dispatch work themselves but those contributing more than two truck loads would also be given the option of sending one man with the consignment being sent to the victims in the forward areas.
