President General Pervez Musharraf has reaffirmed Pakistan's continued support for Nepal's unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty as well as its economic development and thanked the South Asian country for extending assistance to Pakistan's earthquake relief efforts.
The President was speaking to Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Nepal, Ramesh Nath Pandey, who called on him on Friday.
The President conveyed gratitude for Nepal's donation of 50,000 dollars towards the President's Relief Fund and supply of relief goods.
The Nepalese foreign minister briefed the President on the current situation in Nepal and handed over a letter from King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev.
The President renewed the invitation he had extended to King Gyanendra and Queen Komal to visit Pakistan and stated that he looked forward to the visit at early mutually convenient dates.
Foreign Minister Pandey is on a 4-day visit to Pakistan. He will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minster Khurshid M. Kasuri and call on the Prime Minister on October 29. He will also deliver a talk on the "Situation in Nepal" at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad on October 29.
Foreign Minister of Nepal, Ramesh Nath Pandey on Friday met his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid M. Kasuri and discussed ways and means to further promote relations between the two countries.
The two foreign ministers reviewed and discussed the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Nepal bilateral relations. They also assessed the regional and international situation as well as the Saarc process and the Saarc summit being held in Dhaka next month.
Foreign Minister Kasuri reiterated Pakistan's continued support for Nepal's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the country's economic development.
The foreign minister urged his Nepalese counterpart for an early conclusion of the free trade agreement (FTA), which would provide a major boost to the bilateral economic co-operation.
The Nepalese foreign minister conveyed sorrow and grief at the large-scale loss of life and destruction caused by the October 8 earthquake in Pakistan.
Foreign Minister Kasuri thanked Nepal for making contribution to President's Relief Fund as well as supply of relief goods for the victims.
