Zareef Khan Foundation provided warm clothes and maternity needs to the quake stricken mothers and their new-borns at temporary maternity centre in Abbottabad.
An emergency relief mission of ZKF visited the female quake victims in the makeshift maternity and delivery hall of the Ayub Medical Complex and distributed one-tonne relief items including warm clothing, blankets and newly born baby garments.
ZKF had come in action on receiving reports of the plight of hapless pregs and infants from its volunteers in Abbottabad. Most of these women are left alone in this world and are being brought from different parts of disaster areas on daily basis and are discharged from hospital day after the childbirth who had to return to unknown destinations.
SOS message was received by ZKF that quake effected females who were admitted for delivery cases neither had an extra pair of clothes nor was there any agency which was providing clothing to the new-borns some of whose heads were covered with socks by their mothers due to cold.
So, a team of ZKF led by its President Abid Zareef Khan accompanied by Patricia Kennedy, the Australian Principal of the Dr Zareef Memorial School rushed from Peshawar and met with the team of ZKF volunteers including Meela Waheed, Ali Inam & Ali Affan in Abbottabad where all relief goods were stored at ZKF base there.
Later, the team visited AMC and distributed relief items. ZKF team plans to visit AMC again as well as adjoining temporary health centres soon to deliver more clothing especially for the new-borns.
Abid Zareef Khan has appealed to the philanthropists and NGOs that they should deliver relief goods where needed as heaps of clothing were seen dumped on roadsides beyond Mansehra towards Balakot and Battagram. On the other hand, they were not reaching those affectees who were in dire need.
"This happens in all emergency assistance programs universally in the developing world because when no central co-ordinating body or organisation exists to steer, it is obvious that aid items and work of agencies overlap. Thus, resulting in excess supply in one location and none in many others," he added.
He further appealed that blankets, warm clothing for all ages and gender, new born baby clothing sets, soaps, towels, nappies, dettol, cotton wool, socks and plastic footwear for all ages may be either be donated or cash to purchase the same may be sent to ZKF detail information of which are available on www.zkf.org.pk. -PR
