Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday and discussed with him matters relating to party affairs, political situation and the relief and rehabilitation plans of the government.
Shaukat said that in the first phase of relief operation, basic facilities like medicines and shelter have been provided to a large number of people.
He said funds distribution to the affected people has begun, adding that the government is providing Rs 25,000 to those who need to repair their houses.
The prime minister said that more funds have been provided to hospitals to buy medicines, etc. He appreciated the nurses and paramedical staff for working day and night with great spirit.
The prime minister also said that temporary schools have started functioning, adding that after Eid all the schools in the earthquake-affected areas would be made functional on temporary arrangements like tents, etc.
Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) president Yasin Malik also met Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and discussed matters relating to relief efforts launched in the wake of massive earthquake.
The Prime Minister said the government is sensitive to the magnitude of the tragedy and alive to the pain and sufferings of the people.
"This is a human tragedy and it transcends all geographical boundaries," he observed.
Yasin Malik said politics should be set aside and Kashmiris on both the sides of the LoC should have an opportunity to interact and help each other to mitigate their sufferings.
He said opening of LoC will help facilitate and provide psychological and emotional support to the people of earthquake-affected areas.
