Special centres for rehabilitation of earthquake victims suffering from paralysis of the lower limbs due to spinal cord injuries will be established in Islamabad, Muzaffarabad and Mansehra.
A well-placed source told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that the decision was taken during a joint meeting held by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Women Development Nelofar Bakhtiar, Social Welfare Minister Zobaida Jalal and Health Minister Nasir Khan.
It was learnt that special centres at the National Institute of Handicapped at Mansehra and Muzaffarabad would be established to provide artificial limbs and specialised medical care to the amputated people. A national plan is also put together to acquire limbs manufactured using latest technology to ensure victims rehabilitation.
The source said that the Women Development Ministry would look after orphans and women. The ministry will also look after the women requiring extended care.
It was learnt that International Committee of the Red Cross has pledged $200 million in assistance over a period of three years for rehabilitation of earthquake victims. The three ministries agreed to join hands for rehabilitation of paralysed patients and artificial limbs would be made available to all the amputated people.
