Some 1400 villagers will get benefit after electrification of four coastal villages through Wind Solar Hybrid Power Generation System in coastal belt of Thatta district.
According to the Sindh Coastal Development Authority (SCDA), the work on electrification of these villages would be completed during 2005-06 by SCDA at a total cost of Rs 14.768 million.
The villages to get benefit include Wadero Abdullah Mirbahar, Kharo Chan (Khatti), Haji Ismail Khaskheli and Abdul Majeed Atradi of Deh Bablo.
The SCDA took note that electrification through normal Hesco programme was not economically viable as these villages were situated at long distance from the electricity lines.
It may be mentioned here that SCDA is pioneer in launching of the Wind Solar Hybrid Power Generation in Sindh and village Mir Mohammad Khaskheli has already been energised.
The SCDA shall launch eight water supply schemes, four each in Thatta and Badin districts at a total cost of Rs 39.400 million. Villages of Badin include Haroon Rajo Chak 84-Rs 2.770 million; Mohammad Bux Khaskheli-Rs 2.472 million; Yamin Jat Chak 57-Rs 3.054 million; and Jumo Rajo Chak 49-Rs 3.040 million; while that of Thatta district include Ghulam Hussain Kaleri-Rs 8.178 million; Jian Zangejo-Rs 5.096 million, Ismail Katiyar-Rs 8.371 million; and Muhammad Shah Burrih-Rs 6.419 million.
Furthermore, the SCDA is launching a project of raising of integrated agricultural crops over an area of 50 acres as a Pilot Project in the range lands of Thatta district, at a total cost of around Rs 8.806 million, with a life span of 36 months.
All these projects aim to uplift the socio-economic status of the masses being ignored in the past and introduce sustainable livelihood activities to the people of the areas.
