Meeting of the NWFP cabinet was held at Chief Minister's Secretariat Peshawar on Wednesday. The NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani presided. The meeting took stock of the matters about ensuring relief activities, rehabilitating affectees and providing them civic facilities while necessary decisions were taken in this regard.
The chief minister directed for focusing on accuracy of figures of the damaged assessment and asked the concerned department to prove immense level of care and responsibility in this respect. He asked for compiling details of the injured and patients of the affected areas admitted in the hospitals under well thought strategy and disciplined manner so that they could be provided required facilities well in time.
He further directed that all phases of relief activities in the affected districts must be completed in transparent and clean manner. A committee comprising Provincial Ministers Raja Faisal Zaman and Akhtar Nawaz Khan was constituted to review possibilities of the construction of houses for the displaced victims at Haripur.
The cabinet decided to shift the cured patients from hospitals to welfare homes and provide them all best possible facilities there. The meeting observed that foreign medical teams were providing best treatment facilities to the injured in affected areas that greatly reduced suffering of the affected local people. The cabinet lauded services of all such medical teams.
The chief minister took strong exception of the complaint that certain government officers and officials were hesitating to work in the affected areas despite being officially deputed there. He warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against such officials and they would be suspended immediately. He said that deficiency of staff in hospitals and other sectors in the affected districts would be fulfilled. The cabinet further decided not to accept any pressure about transfer of those officials who were deputed for duties in Kohistan and other backward areas.
Provincial Health Minister Inayatullah told the cabinet that certain welfare organisations have desired to establish new hospital on their own as well as repair the existing health institutions in the affected areas. The cabinet lauded spirit of such organisations and expressed the confidence that it would help in reconstruction of hospitals and establishing new health centres to provide best medicare facilities to the local people.
The cabinet also directed for constituting committees under the chairmanship of concerned DCOs in the affected districts to remove rubbles of the damaged buildings in the affected areas as well as supervise the matters of recovered precious items from such buildings. Other members of the committee included EDO health and EDO works & services concerned. Police was also directed to ensure protection of the precious luggage and public property in the affected areas.
The cabinet decided to fulfil the deficiency of bulldozers in Kohistan district wherein funds would be immediately provided to the local administration for this purpose. It was also decided that helicopters would be used to provide edible items to the people in various remote affected areas.
Akram Khan Durrani directed to summon high level meeting soon after Eidul Fitr to review traffic problems in provincial metropolis as well as decisions of far reaching impacts to be taken in view of the proposals put forth on this occasion. He said that he direly felt the difficulties of citizens about traffic hazards and he was quite eager to solve it for good.
The cabinet also formed a committee under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Information Technology Hussain Ahmad Kanju for suggesting reforms in works & services department. The committee would submit its recommendations within two months period while other members of the committee included Provincial Ministers Maulana Falze Ali Haqqani, Shahraz Khan, Amanullah Haqqani, Provincial Secretary Schools Amjad Shahid Afridi and Secretary Works & Services Muhammad Riaz.
The cabinet also appealed the people to celebrate Eidul Fitr with simplicity and austerity due to devastation's of earthquake. It was also decided that no any Eid Mela or fairs would be allowed anywhere in the province. Similarly the cabinet also decided to take severe action against those involved in aerial firing during moon-sighting and Eid days.
The cabinet deplored attitude of opposition on the occasion of tabling Hisba Bill in the provincial assembly session saying that such a negative attitude did not deem fit to opposition in august house because Hisba Bill was an important step towards promotion of Islamic values. The chief minister on this occasion said that he had great respect for the opposition and he was also rightly expecting positive and decent attitude from it.
The cabinet decided that provincial government officers and officials deputed in the affected areas would remain on duty during Eid days and would not proceed on any leave anyhow.
