A Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society delegation called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz here on Sunday and discussed ways to further expediting relief measures to help the victims of the earthquake.
Talking to the delegation, headed by Abdul Rahman Mohamed Al-Oun, the Prime Minister thanked the government of Kuwait for its generous assistance to Pakistan and appreciated the efforts being made by the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society.
He said October 8 earthquake was a major tragedy and the government has to deal not only with physical injuries but also with psychological traumas as there are a lot of widows and orphans to look after, who have lost their bread earners.
Shaukat Aziz said presently the government, along with the World Bank, ADB and the UN Agencies, was carrying out damage assessment with a view to launching the reconstruction phase.
Referring to the donors' conference being organised on November 19, the Prime Minister said Pakistan would like the Kuwaiti government to participate in the conference. He said reconstruction could take as long as five years.
Prime Minister Aziz also gave details of the programmes intended for income generation for the victims.
