Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Secretary General and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed on Monday urged the youth to follow the message of Allama Iqbal in letter and spirit and seek education and knowledge to play more active role in national development and prosperity.
Addressing a function here at the Sir Syed Academy in connection with Iqbal Day, organised by the Sir Syed Memorial Society, Mushahid said youth played very important role in Pakistan Movement and now they should again repeat the same spirit.
Referring to the leadership qualities of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal, and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, he said these leaders, who belonged to middle class families, proved their mettle through hardwork and dedication, which should be followed by the youth of today.
He said Muslims led the world in education and knowledge in the past, which was then taken over by the West, adding now it was time that Muslims especially the youth should come forward and achieve the same position which their forefathers had enjoyed in the field of education and knowledge.
Appreciating the contribution of the youth in helping the people hit by the October 8 earthquake, Mushahid said they should march forward with the same dedication and devotion to lead the country.
He said mobilisation of youth and NGOs did well in the relief operation in the affected areas.
He said people from middle class played vital role in creation of Pakistan while the landlords and Jagirdar did not play any considerable role in Pakistan Movement.
The PML leader said the youth should follow the message of courage, dedication, devotion and seeking education given by Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal, and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.
Professor Khawaja Masood, Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Malik, Dr Tahir, Naeem Qureshi, Manzoorul Qurnain, Asif Mukhtar and Brigadier Iqbal Muhammad Shafi (Retd), president, Sir Syed Memorial Society speaking on the occasion highlighted the message of Allama Iqbal through his poetry.
They said 60 percent of the work of Allama Iqbal was for the youth, as he knew that the youth, if motivated, could play very important role in promoting the national spirit and true image of Pakistan.
