Modest improvement was seen in the value of the rupee versus the dollar in the open market on Friday, picking up five paisa for buying and selling at 60.00 and 60.10, respectively.
According to some dealers, the local currency managed to gain slightly on easy supply of dollar. They observed that the rupee is under pressure as a result of higher demand of dollar by the banks.
The rupee, however, lost 10 paisa in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 69.80 and Rs 70.00 after marginal gain in the value of the single European currency in the global markets, they said.
In the world markets, the dollar showed mixed trend versus the major currencies after the key US regional survey data, moneychangers said.
INTERBANK RATES: For the third day in a row, the rupee did not show any significant change versus the dollar for buying and selling at 59.85 and 59.87, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee maintained its downward trend and lost its worth by another five paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets, on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar's trading commenced at overnight closing level of Rs 60.00 and Rs 60.10 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. However, it moved up and closed higher at Rs 60.05 and Rs 60.15, on buying and selling rates, respectively, the dealers said.
On the contrary, the rupee maintained its rising tempo and appreciated its worth against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased at Rs 102.30 and was sold at Rs 102.70 as compared to Thursday's closing of Rs 103.00 and Rs 103.60, respectively, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar surged by 15 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60 (buying) and Rs 60.10 (selling) against overnight value of Rs 59.85 (buying) and Rs 59.95 (selling). It did not observe any further change by the end of second session and closed at Rs 60 (buying) and Rs 60.10 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 102.30 (buying) and Rs 103 (selling) against last rate of Rs 103.25 (buying) and Rs 103.55 (selling). It did not observe any change in the second session and closed at Rs 102.30 (buying) and Rs 103 (selling).
