The Governor of Sindh has taken the laudable action of clearing the area around Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazaar by demolishing the shops etc. But he should also ensure that the drug addicts which infest the area are also removed.
The land next doors, meant as a parking area, has become their permanent camping ground, once the boundary wall has been removed.
They have planted their tents and are sprawled all over the place making it difficult to park the vechiles. Many of these drug addicts can also be seen injecting themselves with syringes and staggering around red and bleary- eyed, begging for money. These addicts have no business around the shrine and should be forcibly removed.
Police officers should be posted to ensure that they do not frequent this area, bringing the shrine a bad name. Also, the funds for the shrine should be more judiciously used.
Last year, the floor was dug up to make an underground tank and was covered with brick kind of stones.
This year, the very stones were yet again dug up and replaced needlessly by a tacky marble- seeming surface. The underground tanks were covered over. Proper planning would have ensured that this wastage of funds would not have taken place.
Instead of the stairs being lined with a needlessly expensive carpet, it should just be marbled. As the carpet reeks of filth within a week.
A polished surface is more hygienic and easier to clean.
Of course the public should be disciplined to not throw rubbish and food in and around the area and to learn some basic form of civic manners.
