The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has asked the Attorney General of Pakistan to pursue a service case at Sindh High Court (SHC), which is hindering promotion of nine Grade-20 income tax officers to Grade 21.
Official sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday that the CBR chairman has taken up the matter with the Attorney General to ensure that the case should not linger on any further and a decision is expedited.
The Federal Government Central Selection Board (CSB-I) had recommended nine officers of the income tax group (Grade-20) for promotion to Grade-21. The officers were cleared for promotion after the approval of the Prime Minister in September 2005. The matter is pending in the wake of a constitutional petition filed by an income tax officer (Grade-20), who has been superseded thrice. The SHC adjourned the case for hearing on November 24, 2005.
The CBR chairman has approached the Attorney General office for help in getting early verdict in the case.
Following are the affected officers: Muhammad Istataat Ali, Chief, CBR; Khawar Khurshid Butt, Commissioner of Income Tax, Zone-B, Lahore; Masood Ali Jamshed, Commissioner of Income Tax, Companies-I, Lahore; Liaquat Ali Khan, Commissioner of Income Tax, Appeals, Peshawar; Bilal Khan, Executive Director National Insurance Company Karachi, Muhammad Faiyyaz Khan, Chief CBR; Liaquat Ali Chaudhry; director NAB, Islamabad; Shahid Azam Khan, Director, Inspection, Karachi and Nazir Ahmed, Commissioner of Income Tax, Rawalpindi Zone.
