Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has cautioned government officers causing unnecessary bottlenecks in public welfare works had no right to stay in their offices and no matter which position they were working against, should give the public representatives their due status, maintaining good liaison with the same.
Chief Minister issued these instructions aimed at gearing up optimum utilisation of resources in the province, pace of development projects and discouraging delays in lawful works of peoples representatives, while addressing a meeting of the administrative secretaries and heads of the concerned departments here on Tuesday.
Punjab Chief Secretary, I G Police Punjab and the P&D Board Chairman also attended the meeting.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, stressing the need for introduction of 'Monitoring System' in each and every department, expressed desire the system side-by-side the analysis of departmental performance should also encompass the monitoring of transparent use of government resources.
He pointed out rupees 63 billion development programme chalked out by the Punjab government for current fiscal year was three times in quantum than that of previous years. He also directed the monthly meetings in every department be held in which justified and timely utilisation of allocated amounts be reviewed.
The Chief Minister expressing dissatisfaction over taking little interest in the under-hearing cases on part of various departments made it clear that the pursuit of those cases was the responsibility of the concerned departments and not that of the Law Department.
He warned action would be taken against the officials responsible for dereliction in that regard. He, however, pointed out the departments would enjoy the support of Law Department in preparation of the cases.
He also urged to improve performance of the departments with regard to assembly business and cautioned that dispatch of 'answers' to the provincial assembly on part of various departments was a serious matter which the concerned secretaries should take notice of. He cautioned that no such negligence should come into his notice in the days to come.
Commending the Punjab government administration role in relief and rehabilitation of earthquake victims, the CM expressed satisfaction that NWFP and Azad Kashmir leadership had expressed gratitude over the succor. He also disclosed that he would soon summon the meetings of newly formed district governments, which would be participated by the district Nazims, Tehsil Nazims and district officers.
Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique gave details on the development strategy of Punjab government in the meeting and said the forthcoming annual budget of Punjab would also be reflective of specified development targets of the province for next three succeeding years.
