As part of European Union's consistent watch on seafood exports from Pakistan, its Ambassador in Islamabad, Bathasar Benz, will visit Karachi Fish Harbour on November 29, 2005, it is learnt.
The visit of the Ambassador will encompass tour of the harbour, the special auction hall for seafood export to EU, and the processing plants, besides holding meetings with different stakeholders of fisheries sector.
The EU Ambassador will be particularly visiting the K-1 auction hall specifically for seafood to member countries of EU. He will send his observations to EU in Brussels for its mission which may visit Pakistan early next year.
Seafood industry sources said that the EU mission is expected to visit in January-Feb, but there is complete silence over the request of government of Pakistan to delay the visit to April or May 2006.
A seafood exporter said that as far as inspection of processing plants is concerned, there is nothing to worry about as these are working according to recommendations of EU mission.
"The real task is for government departments to clean the harbour, particularly ensuring hygienic conditions at K-1 hall, and in its surroundings to give a healthy impression during the visit of EU Ambassador," he said.
