Bollywood movie legend Amitabh Bachchan was in stable condition in a Mumbai hospital Tuesday after being admitted suffering from a bowel complaint.
"Tests conducted since his admission confirm that Mr Bachchan is suffering from colitis (inflammation of the large intestine). We have advised him complete rest and observation," a hospital doctor, who asked not to be identified, said. "His condition is stable and there's nothing to worry about," he added.
No date had yet been set for the entertainer's release.
The 63-year-old superstar, famed for his gyrating song-and-dance routines, was hospitalised in New Delhi Monday after complaining of abdominal pains and was released after being examined.
But late Monday, the "Big B" - as he is known to fans - was admitted to Leelawati Hospital in Mumbai, India's entertainment capital and the city which he calls home.
Worried fans gathered outside the hospital as a feeble-looking Bachchan was admitted on a stretcher, wearing a red cap and covered in a heavy shawl.
Bachchan, who returned last week from a shoot in New York, has been pursuing a hectic schedule. He is filming at least five movies and has another five in post-production.
Leading New Delhi cardiologist Naresh Trehan, who examined Bachchan on Monday, said the star's illness was "nothing serious and just a normal irritation in the intestine"
