A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring the newly constructed state-of-the-art centre of kidney diseases at the Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar into function was signed between NWFP Health Department and Workers Welfare Board (WWB) here on Monday.
Provincial Minister for Health Inayatullah, provincial Minister for Industries, Malik Zafar Azam, secretary Health Abdus Samad Khan and secretary Industries Ihsanullah Khan were present on the occasion while Professor Shad Mohammad Khan, chief executive HMC and Adalat Khan, secretary Workers Welfare Board, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the agreement, the centre will provide the latest and quality services in urology, nephrology and kidney transplantation will be supervised by the Management Council of the HMC.
The OPD of the centre will provide round-the-clock services while the income generated by the centre will be spent for the treatment of patients and development of the centre. Moreover, the centre will provide free of cost services to the workers, registered with the WWB on the pattern of the government employees.
It merits mentioning that the building of the centre has been completed at a cost of Rs 138.138 million, provided by the WWB while order for supply of necessary equipment for the centre had also been placed.
Similarly, the required staff has been identified and its approval by the Finance Department is awaited. The provincial government had provided free of cost land for the kidney centre, while all other expenditures will be borne by the WWB.
The centre will have a capacity of 50 beds in the first phase while it can be expanded to 100 beds in future. The WWB will bear the recurring expenditures of the centre for the first two years while later on the responsibility will be shifted to the provincial government.
