Travel between twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for common people and salaried class has become a difficult task due to a multitude of problems such as the hike in fares, shortage of mini-buses and vans, rude behaviour of the drivers and the conductors and the overloading.
The negligent attitude of the Traffic Police of the twin cities is adding in the miseries of the common people daily travelling between the two cities for earning bread.
The authorities are least bothered over agonies of people as a result of the harsh and violent attitude of the transporters. They are looking indifferent towards resolving problems inflicting thousands of commuters including women, men and students. Students are particular target of transporters and have lot to face.
I have to wait for a long time at the bus stop but I don't get the seat as all the women seats are pre-occupied by the gents, said Miss Rehana Akhtar a student of a private college in Islamabad. She said the van drivers are rash, careless and rude. They drive fast on narrow and busy roads. There should be a check on the rash driving and violations of traffic rules, she added.
She said most of the drivers are ignorant of traffic rules and those who know the rules don't respect them. They stop at unauthorised stops and take wrong turns to save distance, she said adding that the drivers who violate traffic rules should be punished and their licenses should be cancelled. Another student said that Government schools and colleges don't provide any transport facility to all students coming from Rawalpindi. "They have to travel by public transport which is quite troubling as the buses are always overcrowded and the fares are sky high.
