Norwegian telecom giant, Telenor Pakistan has announced that Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan, two legends who are considered by many to be the greatest players in the history of squash, will clash on Wednesday afternoon in a unique charity match, according to a spokesperson of the company.
A company's spokesperson said, the players who have long retired from the game will be facing off in a match just before the final of the 20th World Men's Team Squash Championship on Wednesday at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.
Telenor, the leading innovator in the local mobile market with the fastest growing network, is sponsoring Jehangir Khan for the event and will be donating the match proceeds to the President's Relief Fund for the earthquake survivors.
This donation would add to the support of more than Rs 65 million that the mobile giant has earlier provided to the aid relief efforts.
Telenor's official spokesperson and director communication, Syed Hasnat Masood, said that the company was proud to be supporting this unique event and was thankful to the greatest ever squash rivals for coming together to support the cause. He added, "Telenor is on the cutting edge of innovation and this event is a simple testament to the power of ideas. This match will be a delight to watch and will also help a great cause."
The Jansher-Jahangir rivalry dominated squash in the late 1980s through to the early-1990s. The pair met total 37 times in the tournament play, with Jansher winning 19 matches (74 games and 1,426 points) and Jahangir 18 matches (79 games and 1,459 points). Exhibition matches and league matches between them were in addition.
The Telenor group has operations in 17 countries around the world. Telenor's mobile operations are one of the biggest in the world with over 74.5 million subscribers. Telenor Pakistan is 100 percent owned by Telenor and adds on to its operations in Asia together with Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh.-PR
