Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has announced Rs 50 million for renovation project of historical Liaquat Bagh and directed managing director Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to make sure the immediate completion of the project.
"There is no need to go after donors for renovation of the Liaquat Bagh, government has funds to provide for this important project and in a few days I will get the approval of Rs 50 million from chief minister", he said after briefing arranged by RDA to give details of the project to federal minister. Director General RDA, Brigadier Pervaiz Mehmood Khan, briefed the minister about the details of the Liaquat Bagh project. He told minister that RDA has contacted various donors of the city to get funds for the project.
The minister taking serious note of the donation issue has said that government has funds to provide for this important project. "If you go after donors the project will not be completed even after two years.
He directed the authorities to make it a state of art and most attractive spot of the Rawalpindi City, which would provide better recreation and entertainment to people of this city. He said that there should be a cricket ground of international standard besides three or four basketball courts, two badminton courts and facilities for various other sports in the sports complex side of the project. The jogging track should be at par with the international jogging requirements.
The minister also directed the MD, RDA to establish the restaurants like KFC and McDonalds in Liaquat Bagh in order to add in the attraction of the project. He also directed the authorities to make sure the establishment of a ladies garden equipped with all modern recreational facilities for the women folks of the city. He also gave various suggestions for the project.
Sh. Rashid while talking about the Rs 5.142 billion Rawalpindi Environmental Improvement Project (REIP) said that this is a mega project and government would not allow this project until the cause way on both sides of the Nullah Lai was constructed in the beginning. "Cause way on both sides of the Nullah is imperative not only for people but to decrease traffic pressure on other busy roads of the city", he said.
Sh Rashid Shafiq, Nazim Rawal Town also assured full support to RDA in completion of the development projects in the city. He directed the RDA to make sure the early completion of the Liaquat Bagh renovation project. He asked the RDA to prepare the feasibility of the City Saddar Road widening and renovation project and construction of the parking plaza at Fawara Chowk. Earlier, MD RDA told minister that almost spade work on the project was completed and there is need for the installation of the various items promised by many people of the city.
