The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) will meet on Saturday to consider 12 schemes worth Rs 48.513 billion from various sponsoring agencies with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Akram Sheikh in the chair.
The meeting would review projects related to transport and communication, education, higher education, water resources, energy, health, urban water supply, governance and poverty reduction, an official source told Business Recorder here on Friday.
Among all the proposed projects, the highest projects were that of education sector worth Rs 26.795 billion and rural road construction Phase II, it is learnt.
In transport and communication sector, addition of third lane to Murree Road from Faizabad to Serena Hotel and rehabilitation of existing road at a cost of Rs 485.5 million would be taken up during the meeting.
The schemes of Higher Education Commission (HEC) include establishment of Central Library and Online Information Centre at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, higher education links with British universities and international linkages of Pakistani universities with foreign universities, costing Rs 663.66 million with foreign exchange component (FEC) of Rs 284 million.
Establishment and operation of 82,000 basic education community schools worth Rs 26.79 billion would also be considered in the meeting.
The CDWP would also take up the second flood protection sector project, procurement of road making machinery for mechanical irrigation division, Peshawar, NWFP and small irrigation scheme in Balochistan worth Rs 48.79 billion. The second flood protection sector project also included FEC of Rs 413.62 million.
In energy, transmission scheme of dispersal of power from 2X50 MW Wind Mill Power Plant at Mirpur worth Rs 741.82 million, including FEC of Rs 254.76 million, would also come under discussion.
In the health sector, the projects include establishment of MRI services in Radiology Department at National Institute of Child Karachi, strengthening of Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences, establishment of accident, emergency and ancillary services complex at the Civil Hospital, Karachi and provision of MRI and CT Scanner at the Civil Hospital, Karachi, Chandka Medical College, Larkana, Peoples Medical College Nawabshah and Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad/Jamshoro. The health sector projects will cost Rs 2,652.67 million.
Urban water Supply Scheme Phase VI, costing Rs 1,598 million, construction of Federal Tribunal Courts in Islamabad (Rs 375 million) and project for financial monitoring and evaluation of draught recovery assistance programme project (DRAPP) worth Rs 455 million would also be considered for approval.
Rural road construction project Phase II with the assistance of Japanese government worth Rs 9.9 billion and rural poverty reduction through social mobilisation would also be taken up for approval in the meeting.
