The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on December 15 has registered decrease in the average prices of 12 essential items. While the average prices of 11 items registered increase and 30 items prices remained unchanged, according to a data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) here on Friday.
However, in terms of percentage change, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 3,000 registered a nominal increase over previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 134.46 as against the previous week's 134.13, showing 0.25 percent increase.
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included potatoes, chicken (farm), bananas, egg (farm), onions, red chillies (powdered), cigarettes K-2, LPG (11 Kg Cylinder), rice Irri-6, voil printed, gram pulse washed and vegetable ghee (tin).
The items which registered increase in their prices included tomatoes, sugar, firewood, garlic, gur, beef, cooked beef (plate), tea (prepared), mash pulse washed, mutton and moong pulse washed.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included wheat, wheat flour average quality, rice basmati broken, masoor pulse washed, bread plain (medium size), milk fresh, milk powdered (Nido), curd, vegetab1e ghee (loose), mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), tea (packet), cooked dal (plate), coarse latha, lawn, shirting, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), chappal sponge (Bata), kerosene oil, bulb (60-watts), match box, washing soap (nylon), bath soap (Lifebuoy), gas charges upto 3.3719 MMBTU, electric charges 1-100, petrol, diesel and telephone charges.
