The Malir police have busted an inter-provincial gang of dacoits involved in snatching mobile phones at gunpoint and other robberies.
The police recovered 14 mobile telephone sets, five pistols, five magazines and 15 cartridges from the possession of five dacoits including their ringleader.
The same gang had earlier been arrested by Dera Ismail Khan police in Punjab.
Town Police Officer, Malir, Altaf Hussain Leghari and SHO Malir Waseem Akram Baloch told newsmen on Friday that the police had a tip off that the gang was present in the area for robbing the cattle traders at Bakra Pirri.
The police immediately rushed to the area disguising them as the traders and arrested two accused Asghar Ali, son of Nazar Khan, and Shahnawaz, son of Salawat Khan, along with two pistols, two magazines and eight cartridges.
Later, on their pointing, the police arrested ringleader Siddiqullah, son of Sahib Jan, Umer Khan son of Amal Khan and Shahzad son of Abdul Jabbar from Gulshan-e-Qadri near a mosque. The police recovered 14 mobile phone sets snatched at gunpoint, three TT pistols with two magazines and 09 cartridges from their possession.
Accused Shahnawaz was earlier arrested by Korangi police and the ringleader Siddiqullah by Dera Ismail Khan police.
During the initial interrogation, the accused confessed committing robberies, snatching bags from women, looting the passengers of buses and minibuses making them hostage in steel town, Shah Latif town, Sharafi Goth, Quaidabad, Korangi Industrial area and other localities in Karachi.
The police have registered the case and started further investigation.
