Orascom Telecom Chairman, Naguib Sawaris is arriving here on Monday to reaffirm the company's ongoing business and investment commitment to Pakistan, particularly in the telecom sector.
During his visit, the Orascom Chairman will call upon high-ranking government officials to discuss the company's future investment plans and participation in other development sectors.
The investments made by Orascom, which also has major shareholding in Mobilink, have exceeded $1.2 billion making Mobilink one of the largest foreign direct investors in Telecom sector.
Orascom Telecom Holding SAE is a leading mobile telecommunications company with GSM operations in seven emerging markets in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, having a total population under license of approximately 460 million with an average mobile telephony penetration of approximately 8 percent.
The company operates GSM networks in Algeria (Djezzy), Pakistan (Mobilink), Egypt (MobiNil), Tunisia (Tunisiana), Iraq (IraQna), Bangladesh (Banglalink) and Zimbabwe (Telecel Zimbabwe). It had 17.5 million subscribers till March 31, this year.
Mobilink, a part of the Orascom Telecom group, has invested over $1 billion since its inception in 1994 and the amount is expected to grow to over $1.2 billion with an additional investment of $300 million by end 2005.
