The Lahore High Court (LHC), while allowing an appeal, set aside the conviction awarded to former Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo and his co-accused Seema Naeem by an accountability court.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo was convicted by an accountability court for 20 months with a fine of Rs one million. The accused was also disqualified for 10 years from being a member of the parliament. His co-accused Seema Naeem was also convicted for 10 months with a fine of Rs one million. Mian Manzoor Wattoo was facing the charge of allotting a commercial plot to his co-accused Seema Naeem in violation of rules and regulations.
HEARING PUT OFF: The LHC put off the proceedings in a petition filed against hike in oil prices, as oil advisory committee failed to submit its report.
The petitioner, M.D. Tahir has prayed to the court to withdraw the increase made in petroleum prices. It was contended that oil prices in international market are decreasing while government is increasing the same without any justification.
He therefore prayed to the court to direct the respondent to withdraw the increase made in oil prices.
LAWYERS TO BOYCOTT COURTS: The lawyers will not appear before the courts after 10.00 am on Wednesday (December 21) to register their protest against the murder of senior lawyer Saleem Sehgal.
This was announced by vice-chairman Punjab Bar Council Asghar Gill while talking to the newsmen here on Tuesday.
The representatives of the lawyers' community strongly condemned the assassination of Saleem Sehgal. 'If the government failed to arrest the culprits, the lawyers' community will hold protest for the acceptance of their demands', Gill said. He said the government has failed to maintain law and order in the province.
