Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is due in the provincial capital on Saturday to take the provincial government into confidence over the construction of water reservoirs and particularly the controversial Kalabagh dam, secretariat sources confided to Business Recorder on Friday.
During the one-day visit to NWFP the premier is scheduled to preside over a meeting of the provincial cabinet of MMA government in the province. In this connection, a special meeting of the provincial cabinet has been convened at the Chief Minister Secretariat.
The prime minister during the meeting would try to take the members of the provincial cabinet into confidence over the construction of Kalabagh dam. The visit of the Prime Minister is the series of the federal government decision regarding moulding public opinion in favour of Kalabagh dam. In this connection, President, General Pervez Musharraf had already visited Sindh.
The provincial government of NWFP has opposed the construction of Kalabagh dam terming it a controversial project demanding the construction of Bhasha dam to meet the shortage as well as generate electricity for the country. For this purpose, the department of irrigation and power has prepared a special briefing, which would be presented in the meeting of the provincial cabinet scheduled on Saturday).
During last meeting of the provincial cabinet, Chief Minister had tasked Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Hafiz Akhtar Ali to prepare a special briefing on the construction of water reservoirs in general and Kalabagh and Bhasha dams in particular.
The meeting would discuss the matter and would prepare future line of action as the provincial government had already set its mind for waging constitutional as well as legal war against the controversial project.
