City Nazim Karachi, Mustafa Kamal has said that projects initiated by former Nazim had not been withdrawn nor work on them was halted rather the pace had been expedited after overcoming the problems, technical defects and impediments in their way.
Addressing the under-training officers of District Management Group who met him at his office Saturday, he pointed out that City Government didn't face any problem in preparing 5-year development plan, as any planning chalked out or development schemes initiated, would also be continued by future governments. "This is the development process which should continue," Kamal asserted.
He regretted that the 10th largest city of the world had no master plan and added for the first time work on preparing a complete Master Plan had been started.
The Nazim thanked President Pervez Musharraf who, he said, started mega projects for the first time for city's reconstruction and development. The projects including Lyari Expressway, Northern Bypass, K-III 100 Mgd water supply project and Taameer-e-Karachi programme would bring a positive change in Karachi.
He clarified that if immediate repair and replacement of old water and sewerage lines was not conducted, K-Ill project would not h benefit people, as the 35-year old system was not in a position of releasing K-III water into it.
To a question City Nazim said, "we believe in serving the people of Karachi without any discrimination and solving their problems. This is our agenda and policy and nothing else".
He said that despite having affiliation with Hag Parast group, the City Government had provided as much amount (as given to Towns having Haq Parast Nazims) to Towns which did not have Hag Parast Nazims and this policy would continue in future also.
"I believe that entire Karachi is my constituency and problem of every person living here is my problem which I have to solve", he said adding that he was endeavouring to solve the problems of people of Karachi with this philosophy in view.
