Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar Saturday nominated four new provincial election commissioners in the four provinces.
Ayaz Muhammad Baig, Joint Secretary (Budget) has been posted as provincial election commissioner Punjab, Chaudhry Qamar-uz-Zaman, Joint Secretary (Elections) as election commissioner Sindh, Sono Khan Baloch, Deputy Secretary as election commissioner Balochistan and Akhtar Hussain Sabir, Deputy Secretary as election commissioner, NWFP.
Talking to APP, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary Election Commission stated that as Muhammad Saleem Akhtar, Joint Secretary had retired from service R.B. Jan Wahidi, who had gone abroad to serve the United Nations Mission in Liberia as Election Advisor, on his return, had assumed charge as Joint Secretary in the Election Commission Secretariat, Islamabad.
He has further stated that Imran Siddiqui, Deputy Election Commissioner, Mirpurkhas had been promoted and posted as Joint Provincial Election Commissioner, Balochistan, Imtiaz Alam, Deputy Election Commissioner, Abbottabad had been promoted and posted as Joint Provincial Election Commissioner, NWFP.
Kanwar Dilshad went on to say that Chief Election Commissioner had approved to send 25 assistant election commissioners to NIPA Karachi for two-week training s about computer applications. Similarly, 15 election officers who were recently promoted had been nominated for getting intensive training on various subjects in the Federal Election Academy, Islamabad for one week from January 2.
It may be mentioned here that election officers are posted at the District level and they are the focal persons being EC's representatives at the grass root level.
Kanwar Dilshad further stated it was the desire of the CEC that all officers of the Election Commission might be sent to the prestigious institutions in the country and abroad for their capacity building to enable them to equip themselves with the day to day modern techniques being introduced to streamline the electoral system and enhance the credibility of the democratic institutions.
