KARACHI: The Government has no plans to allow import of 10 year old used cars into Pakistan, said Minister of State and Chairman, Board of INvestment (BoI), Saleem Mandviwalla on Thursday.
"We will not grant permission for import of 10 year old or over than that reconditioned cars," said Mandviwalla while talking to media persons on the sidelines of the Multilateral Investment & Trade Conference 2011 organised by BoI in collaboration with Pakistan related business forums of 10 foreign countries.
He said the government has already allowed import of 2-3 year old used cars but it would not be feasible to import 10 year old cars.
"It would not be feasible and we also want to support our local car manufacturing industry which has made huge investment over the years," he pointed out.
Earlier, the president of Pak-Japan Business Forum Abdul Kader Jaffer had demanded of the Federal Government not to allow the import of used cars as importers were abusing the permission and at the same time it was harming the local car manufacturing industry.
