The Awami National Party (ANP) candidate for Senate technocrat seat, Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, has expressed concern over the refusal of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to allow depositing of dollars in commercial banks.
In a press release issued here on Tuesday, he said that this aggressive decision has not only created difficulties for the commercial banks in depositing of dollars but is also affecting business activities in the country.
He said that except Peshawar, all commercial banks in the country are accepting, while the refusal of the central bank was forcing the people to move to other cities for this purpose.
He attributed Saturday's bank dacoity in Peshawar to this highhandedness of the officials of the State Bank of Pakistan in which armed dacoits decamped with one million dollars. He said that in case the central bank had not adopted such attitude, the incident would not have occurred.
He said that this attitude of the central bank was also affecting the prevailing harmony among the federating units.
Bilour demanded of State Bank Governor Dr Shamshad Akhtar to take notice of this attitude of the officials of the bank and take them to task for violation the rules and regulations of the central bank and issue them directive to accept dollars from the commercial banks in the province.-PR
