The Zila Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil has asked the Fruit and Vegetable Associations to supplement the district government efforts for maintaining cleanliness in the city to provide healthy atmosphere and hygienic fruit product to the citizens.
This he observed while holding meeting with the office-bearers of wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Commission Agent Association at his office on Wednesday. He said that trading unions were supposed to work like C.B.Os for welfare of their community but not create problems for other people and local government as well.
The Zila Nazim offered to the office-bearers of Fruit and Vegetable Associations for matching assistance from district government for maintaining cleanliness of their areas and asked them to come with their proposals and programmes to the district government for the interest of their own community and clients and added that it would also speed up their business activities.
While discussing about shifting of Subzi and Fruit Mandi from the city, the Zila Nazim said that district government was actively working over the schedule to shift the vegetable and fruit Mandy at its new market and was in touch with all stakeholders and concerned departments to speed up their development works and ensure to provide lacking facilities at the site of new Subzi Mandi.
He said that district government Hyderabad was intend to take each step with consultation and co-ordination of stakeholders to make it durable and success. He also informed the delegation that district government was also working to provide co-related facilities to boost up economic activities in the district besides efforts were being made to get the Hyderabad airport re-functional with matching share of federal government, district government and industrialists. He said that Hyderabad could be developed and made prosperous with the sense of responsibilities among each citizen.
The General Secretary wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Commission Agent Association Noor Muhammad, Vice President Najmuddin Qureshi and Joint Secretary Ghulam Hussain of Shoukat Group were also available in the meeting and briefed the Zila Nazim about their problems.
The Zila Naib Nazim Hyderabad Zaffar Rajput who was also the Convener of Zila Council Hyderabad has assured the labour leaders that Haqparast Councillors would extend their full support in getting legislation bills passed if introduced by Labour Councillors in the Council to protect the labour rights within district. This he observed while addressing seminar on the problems of workers of Bangle Industries, organised by Pak Social Welfare Society (PSWS) at its head office Hali road last night.
Addressing the seminar, Rajput said that MQM was representing 98 percent poor population of the country as such it would not be step behind to get the problems of deprived class solved.
Expressing his apprehension over exploitation of workers in bangle industries of Hyderabad Zaffar Rajput said that it was not only causing the loss of national income but spoil the skilled labour force of Hyderabad.
He urged upon the legal experts, labour leaders and labour councillors to prepare a draft paper with their consultation and introduce it in Zila Council so that the purpose of legal cover to the workers be achieved. Zaffar Rajput was also of the view that awareness of rights among stakeholders was very much essential before getting it. He said that NGOs struggling for labour rights were very much in touch with national and international labour organisations and could play their vital role for this purpose.Lauding the role of Pak Social Welfare Society in helping the people of backward areas, the Zila Naib Nazim said that district government Hyderabad has also planned to encourage NGOs by providing 80 percent financial support for their development projects under Citizens Community Board (CCB) not only to provide basic facilities to the people at gross root level but also to ensure public participation in development works of the district. He asked the NGOs to come forward and join with district government in practical work for the welfare of deprived segment of the society.
Earlier, the Executive Director PSWS Abdul Ghaffar Sherwani in his speech listed the achievements of his organisation which include providing first aid, civil defence, vocational trainings to the workers, establishment of learning centres, primary health care centre, launching small credit scheme with skill development of workers. He said that his organisation by conducting a survey has prepared a strategy to get the problems of bangle industries solved which comprised in two parts, including awareness and capacity building of the workers to protect the workers from their exploitation.
The seminar was also addressed by Aijaz Shaikh Nazim UC-13 Latifabad, Members district Council Javaid Kardar, Perveen Loodhi, Illyas Khokhar, Nizamuddin Shaikh, Shabana and Moin Khan, who highlighted over the problems of workers and proposed various steps for redressal of problems.
