Saudi Arabia on Wednesday handed over more than 4,500 tents to Pakistan for quake-hit victims and promised a 40-bed mobile hospital. Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Asseri handed over tents to Federal Relief Commissioner Major General Farooq Ahmad Khan during a ceremony at the Jinnah Convention Center.
The envoy handed over a consignment of 4,517 tents to the relief commissioner for onward dispatch to the quake-affected areas. "This is part of the continuing effort by the Saudi Relief Mission in Pakistan to extend all possible help to quake-hit people", said Asseri.
Saudi Arabia being the biggest donor to Pakistan since the October 8 earthquake has provided financial assistance besides hundreds of thousands of blankets, tents, sleeping bags and electricity generators for the survivors. "We are brothers in faith and would stand by you in your hour of trial and tribulation", the envoy said.
Speaking on the occasion, Relief Commissioner Major General Farooq Ahmad Khan eulogised the role of the Saudi government, saying that it has always helped the people of Pakistan at the times of crises.
