The anti-Islamic voice rose during last three or four years or during the cold war era was indeed the creation of a specific section of the western writers.
Western media and literature has stimulated the anti-Islamic feeling. Contrary to it, the Sufis and saints of the South-Asia have preached and promoted love and brotherhood.
Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) expressed these views while addressing the International Writers Conference held at the GC University Lahore here on Saturday.
Khalid maintained that the intellectuals, writers, poets and men of letter have to play vital role for the promotion of art and literature in the changing global scenario of the present day. He added that the feudal system is declining and the new global economic scenario is taking place. In this age of competition, he said, we will have to equip ourselves with knowledge and our writers and intellectuals have to play important role in this connection. He said that the concept of Islam is based on tolerance and we will have to make the world realise that Islam is the messenger of peace, love and brotherhood.
Vice-chancellor GC University Lahore Professor Dr Khalid Aftab in his inaugural address said that we are confronted, on one hand with the clash of civilisations, religious and racial prejudice and violating civilisation and the humanly values, on the other hand we are losing logical thought and sensibility gradually.
He said that the chemistry of civilisation temperament of the South-Asia is the blend of common thought of scholars, saints, philosophers, writers, poets, musicians, tale-tellers and fiction writers, and all of them believe in single point that human being should be given right to survive and every religion and nation should be given equal spiritual respect.
Former Justice Javed Iqbal in his speech discussed the topic of literature, culture and intellectualism. The inaugural session was followed by two-sessions which were addressed by Intizaar Hussain, Iftikhar Arif, Mehmood Sham, Shahzad Ahmed, Aslam Ansari, Kishwar Naheed, Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik, Haseena Moeen, Ghalib Ahmed, Dr Abu Al Kallam Qasmi and Sarmad Sehbai.
