Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan March 2 directed the concerned authorities to conduct especial drive every month against the deadly infectious diseases in the province on the lines of anti-polio campaigns.
The health department should work in this regard utilising all the available facilities and resources.
This would not only provide health facilities to the common man at his doorstep but also help evaluate the working capacity of the department, he said while presiding over a meeting at the Governor House.
Provincial Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, Advisor to Chief Minister for Finance, M. A. Jalil, Secretary Health, Naushad Ahmed Shaikh and other officers attended the meeting, which reviewed the overall health facilities in the province.
Governor Ibad emphasised on taking immediate and practical steps in Tele-medicine sector as with highlighting it, the patients in rural areas could contact and consult with experts based in urban areas on their health issues through this system.
Stressing on reactivating the basic health units in the province, he said despite existence of these health units, the rural people have to visit hospitals in cities spending lots of money.
"In order to provide health facilities to the poor people in rural areas, the posting of specialists should also be made on weekly-basis in the rural areas instead of only at Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur hospitals," he suggested.
Secretary, Health informed the governor that posting of doctors in the rural areas was an important issue and would soon be implemented.
Governor viewed that the Basic Health Units in the rural areas could be made functional with the help of NGS. He directed to evolve a strategy for organising medical and screening camps at district level every month, which be a permanent feature.
He also called for evolving a strategy for imparting training to the nurses and activating the Sindh Nursing Board on modern lines.
Governor was told that an end has been brought to the unauthorised blood banks in the province and owing to ongoing drive against such blood banks, the health department has succeeded in containing the Hepatitis.
Governor Ibad asked for improving facilities at burns ward of civil hospital Karachi as most of the cases are referred to it.
He also directed the health officials for setting up trauma centers in Hyderabad and other cities like Karachi where such centers were functional in three hospitals.
He took note of medico legal system also and suggested examining such system existing in other countries so that changes could be brought about here. He said that posting of MLOs in some of the hospitals was causing problems to the people.
Governor directed to evolve a new policy with regard to medico legal system in consultation with private hospitals so that MLOs could also be posted there.
He said further that the doctors should be sent to the schools but no doctor should be posted in any school on permanent basis. " There should be a rotation system," he suggested.
