Russia's grain exports in February dropped for the second month in a row to 0.45 million tonnes, from 0.8 million tonnes in January. Despite the decline, Russia's total grain exports in 2005/06 are seen at 12.5 million tonnes, compared with 9.1 million tonnes in 2004/05.
In February, wheat exports are estimated to have fallen to 0.3 million tonnes from 0.69 million tonnes in January and 1.16 million tonnes in December.
Total wheat exports in July-February were 8.1 million tonnes, above the 2004/05 level of 7.7 million tonnes. The continued decline in wheat exports reflected a steady growth in domestic prices aggravated by the closure of shallow Above Sea ports due to ice.
Russia's wheat exports this season are much more dependent on the grain markets of South Asia and East Africa.
