Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Pakistanis are "our asset" wherever they live and their contribution to nation building holds the key to progress and prosperity.
He was talking to a PML UK delegation, led by Raja Mohammad Ishtiaq, that called on him at Dorchester Hotel late Monday. Shaukat Aziz said that he himself had stayed abroad for long years and he could understand the pain of being away from the country but "I am also aware of the sentiments of Pakistanis living abroad for their motherland."
Talking about achievements of the Pakistan Muslim League after coming into power in 2002, the premier said that the party had introduced democracy at the grass roots level by holding local bodies' elections.
POLLS IN 2007: "Elections for the National Assembly and provincial assemblies will be held in 2007 and this will be the first government after many years that will complete its constitutional term," he said.
Prime Minister Aziz said that President Pervez Musharraf had ensured that all the institutions should work transparently and by the grace of God nobody could point an accusing finger at the top leadership of the country. "We are working for Pakistan and our interest is the interest of Pakistan," he said.
He said: "On completion of the PML's 100 years a grand rally is being arranged on March 23 in Lahore this year at Minar-e-Pakistan." All the Muslim Leaguers would be invited to participate in this historical event.
ISLAMIC VALUES: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz urged the expatriates to promote Islamic values of tolerance, brotherhood, peace and amity. "You must follow and promote our great values abroad as this would lead to interfaith harmony, which is needed the most in present times."
He told the PML representatives that British Prime Minister Tony Blair acknowledged the Pakistanis' contribution in the United Kingdom and said that they were great assets. Shaukat Aziz lauded the leadership qualities of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, saying that "the PML president is running the party efficiently and we will make our party more strong and God willing, we will win the 2007 elections."
He said: "The success of the Muslim League is success of Pakistan and Pakistan's success is success of the Muslim Ummah."
The PM paid tribute to the Pakistan's High Commissioner to UK, Dr Maleeha Lodhi, and said that 'there is a great need for having competent ambassadors in all the important countries.' "Dr Maleeha is our national asset," he observed.
