The Department of Health NWFP has signed five different MoUs (memorandum of understanding) with various donor organisations for establishment of health care facilities in the quake-hit areas of the province to ensure efficient delivery of health services to the distressed population.
Secretary Health NWFP, Abdus Samad Khan signed the MoUs on behalf of the NWFP government. Provincial Health Minister Inayatullh was also present on the occasion.
According to an MoU signed between Medecins Sans Frontiers and Health Department, MSF, a French NGO has established a 120-bed tent hospital in Mansehra to extend free of cost quality health care facilities to the people.
Similarly, Paktel Limited has agreed to establish an 80-bed hospital at Balakot, while Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.v, a German Welfare Organisation will continue implementation of a temporary field hospital at Chattar plain. The organisation will also construct a pre-fabricated 20-bed Rural Health Centre in the area.
Another MOU signed between Aga Khan Health Services Pakistan revealed that AKHSP in collaboration with NWFP government would take initiatives for improving the health system with special focus on boosting up the status of women and children health in Shinkiyari District Mansehra.
The AKHSP apart from community mobilisation will also train community health workers and lady health workers to re-establish public health system in the quake-affected areas.
Moreover, another MOU was also signed among the Pakistan Institute of Community of Ophthalmology (PICO), LIGHT for the World (Australia), Christoffel-Blinden Mission (CBM) and Aid to Leprosy patients (ALP) and Health Department.
These organisations will also support in restoration of health facilities in the earthquake-affected area of Battagram and its surroundings.
