A 'mini-city', with full amenities donated by MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas for the October 8 earthquake survivors, was inaugurated by the Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Amanullah Khan Jadoon, near Havelian on Monday.
The keys for the 40 houses constructed on the site were handed over to the minister by Dr Gabor Vakarcs, General Manager, MOL Pakistan.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Jadoon said that no amount of consolation or aid could ever really replace the loss "experienced by us all, yet as believers of Islam.... life must go on, as now we must work for the ones who have survived this calamity".
He thanked the company for its continuous support for the earthquake victims. "MOL has been truly generous, practical and enterprising to construct the first complete 'city' with all facilities and amenities for the earthquake victims", he added.
The Ambassador of Hungary, Bela Fezekas, said, "Hungary feels for their Pakistani brethren, and we were the first ones to take concrete steps in the rehabilitation of the earthquake victims."
He said, "In-keeping with our continuous efforts in rehabilitation, a charity organisation from Hungary is donating another 15 houses for the MOL City." He especially thanked the local administration for support and services "in making this 'mini-city' a reality".
Gabor Vakarcs said that it was indeed a happy day for MOL, as its dream of contributing towards long-term rehabilitation for the earthquake victims had been realised.
MOL was one of the initial companies to announce an amount of $500,000 for earthquake relief and rehabilitation programme. This money was utilised as contribution towards the President's Relief Fund, establishing a tent village in co-operation with National Commission for Human Development, sponsoring two visits of a specialist team with disinfection and decontamination equipment. The equipment later was donated to Capital Development Authority (CDA) and for the construction of MOL city.
"MOL also contributed in planning and implementing the relief and rehabilitation plans and is proud of its humble achievements," he said.
He announced that MOL would be facilitating construction of another 15 houses at the site to be donated by a Hungarian charity organisation. He thanked the District Nazim Abbottabad and Tehsil Nazim Abbottabad for providing the site for establishing the 'city' and facilitating services infrastructure in the area.
The MOL 'city' has water and electrical supplies. Each house comprises a room, kitchenette and toilet. It has an oven, coal heater and power saving bulbs inside and outside the house. There is also a fully functional sewerage system laid out especially for this 'city'.
MOL Pakistan oil and gas BV is a subsidiary of MOL Group, one of the largest oil and gas groups of Central and Eastern Europe. MOL is operating in Pakistan, in NWFP since 1999. It has to its credit oil and gas discoveries in Tal block situated in Karak and Kohat districts of NWFP.
