The first part of phase-IV to award FM radio licences for 47 districts of Pakistan was accomplished on Wednesday, through an open and transparent bidding.
The bidding was held to award 10 licenses on first day while for another 37 FM radio licenses will commence on Thursday.
Inaugurating the first day of bidding Iftikhar Rashid, Chairman Pemra, said that the national landscape of electronic media has changed from what it was just two years ago. He added that national electronic media field is a virtual treasure-trove of potentialities and opportunities.
He stressed the successful bidders to ensure the healthy flow of information, entertainment and education to the public but in due adherence and conformity to national interest.
Chairman Pemra extended his deepest gratitude and felicitation to the successful bidders for carry forwarding the Pemra's vision and urged the earliest expedition of project. Today's bidding was held to award the licenses for Peshawar Quetta, Hafizabad, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Pak Pattan, Thatta, Ghotki, Badin and Shikarpur districts.
The successful companies would require to start operation within one year after the award of licenses. The highest bid of Rs 32 million was quoted for Peshawar by Shamal Media Services, Karachi.
Other Pemra officials including Shahid Humayun Executive Member Pemra, Director General Technical, and Director General (Administration) were also present.
Pemra has already awarded 96 FM radio licenses across the country out of which 55 have started their operations.
