City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is preparing amendment in Pure Food Act that would be sent to the government for its approval and legislation.
The amendments include that the court of law should accept the independent witness while collecting samples. The other amendment it proposes is that the court of law should allow to collect the samples of cooked food also.
Sources at city government noted that the prevailing food law does not allow a food inspector to collect samples of cooked food. This weakness of law is being exploited by the mafia involved in selling the adulterated commodities in the shape of cooked food.
The city government noted that whenever a sample of adulterated food is collected and people around were asked to witness the happenings in court, they totally refuse to be taken as witness. The city government observed that more than 2,000 cases are still pending due to delayed justice.
