With a view to updating the knowledge of general practitioners, consultants and post graduate trainees, the Fatima Memorial System (FMS)'s Center for Health Research (CHR) in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine is holding one day international symposium on "Updates in Medicines" here at Fatima Memorial Hospital on Tuesday (March 21).
This is the first theme of the symposia series on "Updates in Medical Sciences" proposed to be held in next three years. Prominent international and national speakers will be delivering lectures along with case discussions to highlight the salient features of the management of various common problems.
This symposium is a great opportunity for consultants, post graduate trainees and general practitioners to update their knowledge. Hepatitis-C, hypertension, diabetes, rheumatologic and renal diseases will be discussed at the symposium. One of the highlights of the day will be a lecture on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by Professor Dr Sara Walker. The activity will conclude with two workshops on emergency and dermatology.
It may be mentioned that Fatima Memorial Hospital (FMH), in collaboration with the faculty of Family Medicine, Aga Khan University Karachi, Ziaudin Medical University Karachi, Shifa College of Medicine Islamabad and Pakistan Society of Family Physicians is launching a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme for family physicians and medical officers. This programme will also be inaugurated as part of the symposium.
Dr Shabnum Sarfraz of FMH said that the Department of Medicine at the Fatima Memorial Hospital was established in 1995 and has expanded both functionally as well as technically since its inception. Department of Medicine is staffed with highly skilled, foreign qualified and experienced professionals.
The FMS Centre for Health Research (CHR) has been established to develop a research culture in the institution and train the faculty and students for health research. The Center also helps the researchers in knowledge generation and dissemination of research findings. It also supports journal club activities and organises national level workshops and symposia. The FMS CHR organised several workshops in 2005.
