Federal Petroleum and Natural Resources Minister Amanullah Khan Jadoon said on Sunday the government was making all out efforts to utilise more than 82 percent hydrocarbon deposits that are still unexplored.
He was addressing the oil and gas experts at the Sui Northern Training Institute. National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Sardar Muhammad Yaqub was also present on the occasion.
Amanullah Jadoon said the government was according top priority to the speedy development of the petroleum sector on sound footings in order to meet the growing energy demands required to achieve the socio-economic growth targets of the country.
He told the participants that gas projects from Iran, Turkmenistan and Qatar were in process besides LNG imports which would greatly help overcome the energy shortfall after 2010.
Jadoon said it was the prime responsibility of petroleum engineers and geo-scientists to equip themselves with the emerging technologies in the world aimed at achieving high success rate and curtailing heavy expenses in oil and gas exploration and production activities.
The minister said the petroleum sector witnessed a tremendous growth during the past few years that has attracted unprecedented local and foreign investment in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, NA Deputy Speaker Sardar Muhammad Yaqub said the energy sector plays a significant role in overall development of any country.
He said Pakistan is blessed with vast hydrocarbon and mineral resources, which should be exploited at fast pace for the progress and prosperity of the people. Managing Director Rashid Lone apprised the participants that the SNGPL Institute has been providing latest know-how and techniques to the petroleum engineers in order to face the challenges of the modern age in a befitting manner.
