Punjab Labour and Human Resources Minister Akhtar Hussain Rizvi has revealed that the Punjab Chief Minister has approved development package of rupees two billion for Chawinda.
Addressing a public meeting in Chawinda on Sunday afternoon, the minister said that the step had been taken for diminishing the backwardness from the area.
He said that under the programme, two English medium schools, community hall and a mini-hospital, costing Rs 50 million, would be completed during the current fiscal year in Chawinda.
Rizvi further said that under the programme special attention would be accorded to the improvement of means of communication and 12 different roads, costing more than Rs 103 million, would be constructed and widened in the area.
Similarly, 60 primary and middle schools were being upgraded, while 43 villages of PP-126 would be converted into model villages, besides two male and female degree colleges, costing Rs 30 million were also being established for ensuring maximum facility of education to the students at their doorstep, he added.
The minister said that a stadium of international level, costing Rs 90 million, was being constructed aimed at holding various sports events and to promote sports at local level.
He said under this programme, Rs 50 million would be allocated to improve sewerage system of Chawinda.
The minister disclosed that tehsil Pasrur had been declared Barani tehsil and under the programme each union council would be given rupees six million for undertaking collective projects and dairy farming in the tehsil.
The Punjab government has decided to establish two technical training institutes in Chawinda, aimed at imparting technical education to female and male students, he disclosed.
MPA Sajila Ansar Bajwa, Shazia Ellahi Sethi and district Naib Nazim Rana Ijaz Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the Provincial Labour Minister inaugurated the widening and improvement programme of Badiana-Chawinda-Zafarwal road, costing Rs 60 million.
